Darryl O’Young hoping to try again next year

Hong Kong driver Darryl O’Young is hoping to challenge for the Yokohama Independents’ Trophy for a third time next season with Bamboo Engineering, after finishing sixth in the trophy in an up-and-down season with the Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T.

Starting almost one race late with the new car, running at the opening round at Curitiba with the uncompetitive normally aspirated Lacetti, combined with a troubled last third of season dropping from one point down in the standings after Oschersleben to 53 points down after the season finale at Macau, O’Young hopes to be back to try again in2012.

“I really want to be back in the World Touring Car, I love this championship a lot and it’s just a matter of putting a programme together,” said O’Young to TouringCarTimes. “I’ve been talking to Bamboo a lot obviously, there’s nothing to confirm at the moment and I probably won’t know until the end of the year.”

“I really hope next year I can get some more testing, get some extra budget and that would help the results. We’ve come so far with the team this year, I think we’ve had a run of real bad luck in the last half of the season, so it’ll be great if we can come back and turn it around next season.”
