Michel Nykjær loses main sponsor
Danish WTCC racer Michel Nykjær has lost his main sponsor Pole Position Denmark due to a dispute with team owner and team manager Henrik Lind.
“Unfortunately there have been several episodes where Michel has acted on his own. I will not go in to details, but it is difficult do cooperate with when Michel makes business that isn’t authorized with me,” said Henrik Lind, owner of Pole Position Denmark.
Nykjaer, who raced both in the WTCC for SUNRED Engineering and selected STCC races for Chevrolet Team Sweden, was completely unaware of that he had lost their support until after they sent notification to the media.
“To be fired in December is not the nicest months to suddenly be left without a job. But to be fired to collect Christmas help is unbelievable and shocking,” said Nykjær to Ekstrabladet.
The termination of the contract has according to Pole Position Denmark happened due to many reasons, one of them a christmas aid campaign.
“The latest situation arose in connection with Nykjær’s collection for christmas aid without any coordination with us. While it certainly is a pleasant and creditable purpose, it has gone over the line. Enough is enough, it is not about sports or money, but a lack of loyalty,” said Lind.
Nykjaer, who has contacted his attorney on the matter, says he does not understand the reason behind the termination of the contract.
“I have searched my mind to find out on which toes I have stepped on. But I cannot think of anything. The christmas collection is not affecting my work at Pole Position Denmark, as it is done in my spare time and I cannot comment on any other events,” said Nykjær.
