Tom Boardman confirmed at STR for WTCC

British driver Tom Boardman has been confirmed at Special Tuning Racing for this year’s WTCC, as the team competes with support from SEAT Sport as a customer racing team.

28-year-old Tom Boardman returns to the championship after a two year spell in the British Touring Car Championship, after driving for SUNRED Engineering in the 2009 championship, where he finished fifth in the independents’ class in his first season.

“SEAT Sport will be featuring heavily in 2012 with full collaboration with all our customers at several types of championships, from track racing to endurance,” said SEAT Sport Director Jaime Puig.

“As well, we have homologated the 1.6 turbo engine for our customers according to the newest FIA guidelines.”

SEAT Sport confirms it is supporting both Special Tuning Racing and Lukoil Racing, which have already announced Gabriele Tarquini and Aleksei Dudukalo as its drivers.

Special Tuning Racing are still in negotiations with drivers for a second and perhaps third car for the 2012 WTCC season.
