Menu’s race engineer joins Dick Johnson Racing
John Waterman, Alain Menu’s race engineer of five years, is heading over to Australia to lead the development of Dick Johnson Racing’s 2013 Car of the Future in the V8 Supercars Championship.
Waterman, prior to joining RML in the WTCC also worked for Triple Eight Race Engineering in the BTCC, developing the highly successful Vauxhall Astra Coupé. He will be working in Malcolm Swetnam’s team at Dick Johnson Racing, Swetnam himself with experience honed in the BTCC, previously working with Northern South (SEAT Sport UK) and Motorbase Performance.
“I’ve got lots of touring car experience since 1999, but these are different cars, it’s a different series so it’’s all about understanding the cars more,” Waterman said to BigPond Sport.
“There was a vacancy on engineering Dean’s car so I’ve filled that for the meantime and it gives me the chance to learn the cars more.”
Waterman’s position at the Chevrolet WTCC squad has been filled by Phil Barker, who was working with Menu at the team’s most recent test last week in Valencia, Spain.
