Charles Ng joins Franz Engstler for full campaign

Hong Kong driver Charles Ng will race for Liqui Moly Team Engstler in the 2012 WTCC season, joining 50-year-old Franz Engstler at the reigning independent teams’ champions.

Ng raced for the team for the final three rounds of the 2011 season, first in the normally aspirated BMW 320si at Suzuka before taking over the team’s turbocharged 320 TC at Shanghai and Macau.

27-year-old Ng was the 2010 Asian Touring Car Series champion, and took points on his first weekend in the 320 TC at Shanghai.

“It was a very promising start for him,” said Engstler Motorsport Team Manager Kurt Treml.

“Charles has moved to live in our town, works together with the mechanics and trains on the simulator. He is quickly integrating himself with the team.”

Franz Engstler will also race again for his own team, in what will be his fifth full season in the Championship.

The 50-year-old from Kempten made history last season becoming the first independent driver to win a race in the WTCC at his home round at Oschersleben.
