No Fredy Barth for 2012 WTCC

Fredy Barth will not be racing full time in this year’s WTCC, though the 32-year-old Swiss doesn’t rule out appearing later in the season.

With the deadline for season entries closing on 29th February, Barth and SEAT Swiss Racing had not registered for the new season, with Barth telling Motorsport-Total the plan is to return in 2013, whilst racing in the Blancpain Endurance Series this year.

“The elimination of the WTCC 2012 season was not easy,” said Barth.

“But we will work with all our might and with our partners and sponsors to next year come back using competitive equipment and a highly motivated team from the start.”

Barth raced in the last two years of the WTCC, with a very strong start in 2010 leading the Rookie Challenge category early in the season, but 2011 turned out to be a trouble year with the SUNRED León 1.6T, capped off with a scary crash in Free Practice at Macau which sidelined him for the final meeting of the season
