Michelisz confident of good result with race two pole
Zengõ Motorsport’s Norbert Michelisz will start on pole position for race two this afternoon as a result of the newly revised qualifying format, which sees the tenth fastest driver start on pole for the second meeting of the weekend.
Michelisz will line-up tenth on the grid for the first race after setting the tenth fastest time in the second part of qualifying, which gives him pole position for race two with the reversed grid system.
Michelisz was start ahead of Lukoil SEAT driver Aleksei Dudukalo who shares the front row, with the Bamboo Engneering Chevrolet of Alex MacDowall and Wiechers-Sport BMW of Stefano D’Aste on row two.
“I feel lucky to be on pole for the second race, but the second session for qualifying I was just too unlucky,” said Michelisz to TouringCarTimes.
“We had a strategy that Gábor (Wéber) drives in front of me and gives me a good tow but there was a misunderstanding with Aleksei and Stefano, before we started our fast lap and they just went between us.”
“Obviously I had to leave a gap to Gábor to not run into his back at the end of the lap, and they just jumped in, and after that I was all the way in the traffic so I had to overtake everyone one by one.”
“I think with my ideal lap time and with the performance of the car it would have been possible to drive to even to P3. But honestly I don’t know if it’s better to be P3 in the first race and then P8 in the second one than to be P10 and P1 (with the reversed grid).”
“I think I have a fast car and I will be in front in the second race, and with a good standing start I think I’m capable of getting a good gap. I don’t think it’s possible to stay to the end in first position because the others, the SEATs and Chevys are simply something faster than us.”
