Fernando Monje to miss Morocco

SUNRED Engineering will field just three cars at Marrakech with the SUNRED León 1.6T of Fernando Monje set to miss this weekend’s meeting.

The 19-year-old Spaniard made his World Touring Car Championship debut two weeks ago at his home round at Valencia, after also skipping the opening round of the WTCC to take part in the FIA European Touring Car Cup with the SEAT León TDI run by SUNRED.

Monje’s car will be refitted with the turbo-diesel engine in order to take part in the next round of the FIA European Touring Car Cup in two weeks time at the Slovakiaring, after he ran with the SUNRED team’s own 1.6 turbo petrol engine at Valencia.

Monje will be defending his lead in the FIA European Touring Car Cup, after winning both races at Monza and leads the Super 2000 class standings by six points over Swiss-driver Peter Rikli.

SUNRED Engineering will therefore just be represented by three cars at Marrakech, with Pepe Oriola in the new SEAT León WTCC and Tiago Monteiro and Andrea Barlesi in the #18 and #40 SR León 1.6Ts.
