Mariano Werner wins for Toyota Team Argentina at Rosario
Toyota Team Argentina driver Mariano Werner won the Super TC 2000 race at Rosario ahead of Nestor Girolami’s Peugeot 408 and Toyota team-mate Matías Rossi and storms into the lead of the championship.
Werner took a comforable win in the rain after starting second on the grid, after just losing out to Renault Lo Jack Team driver Mariano Altuna in the Super 8 qualifying race in the morning, with the Renaults struggling in the wet conditions after a strategic error with tyre selection.
The race was interrupted briefly by the safety car on lap 32 to facilitate the recover of Daniel Belli’s stricken Lanus Motorsport Chevrolet Cruze.
Werner’s winning margin was a dominant 8.4 seconds over Peugeot Cobra Team’s Nestor Girolami, with reigning champion Matías Rossi close behind, just two-tenths of a second behind Girolami’s 408 at the line.
Jorge Trebbiani scored a strong result for the PGS16 Ford team with fifth, with Emanuele Spataro the top classified Renault Lo Jack Team driver in sixth place, followed by the two Chevrolet Cruzes of Agustín Canapino and Christian Ledesma.
With his second consecutive win in only the third round of the Championship, Werner now assumes the points lead from an absent Carlos ‘Cacá’ Bueno with 62 over Girolami on 56, with Rossi in third just five points further behind.
