WTCC Slovakia Saturday penalty round-up

A round-up of all of the penalties from Saturday at the FIA World Touring Car Championship round at the Slovakiaring.

There are only two penalties which will change grid positions for the races today. Arena Motorsport’s James Nash will drop 10 places after failing a right height inspection in scrutineering after qualifying yesterday, despite having qualified a career best (both driver and manufacturer) fourth.

Proteam Racing’s sole representative this weekend, Mehdi Bennani, will start from the back of the grid for race one after having to change an engine yesterday. The Moroccan will form up in 15th spot for race two.

The biggest fine on the board was for Wiechers-Sport driver Stefano D’Aste. The Italian picked up a 5,000 EUR fine for overtaking whilst the red flag was out in free practice 1. Yellow flag periods in the same session saw the stewards penalise a number of other drivers, with Aleksei Dudukalo and Franz Engstler being reprimanded for not respecting the yellow flags, whilst Tom Boardman was judged to have more seriously disregarded them and was fined 1,500 EUR.

Stefano D’Aste also completed an extra lap at the end of free practice 1 as did Chevrolet driver Rob Huff in the second session, both were reprimanded by the stewards.

SEAT changed their engines without penalty for the final time this season for Aleksei Dudukalo and Pepe Oriola, so both will start from their second and eighth place positions on the grid. Special Tuning Racing driver Tom Boardman was also given permission to start from the back despite not setting a time in qualifying, after the steering arm broke on his out lap.
