Monteiro scores points on last race for SEAT

Tiago Monteiro picked up two sixth place finishes on his last weekend for SEAT in the WTCC. The Portuguese-driver will return to a factory team for the first time since 2009 with Honda from Japan.

Monteiro qualified in seventh place for race one, and was able to move up a spot to finish sixth in the lone SUNRED-engined SR León 1.6T, whilst his two team-mates were equipped with the latest SEAT development.

In race two, Monteiro was unable to keep the works Chevrolets behind in the reversed grid race, and was able to hold of the rear-wheel drive BMW of Tom Coronel until the final lap, when the Dutchman eventually passed with Monteiro suffering electrical problems.

“I think this was a good farewell. Both races were great fun, with a lot of battles on a delightful track,” said Monteiro.

“I think I offered the fans a good show and I am sure I have done my best. I now leave with SEAT with a sense of accomplishment. I spent some beautiful years with SEAT and this has been an emotional moment, but now it’s time to meet some new challenges and the Honda project is very ambitious. A big thank you to all those who have been with me during my years here.”
