Fredy Barth & André Couto set for Macau return
Fredy Barth and André Couto have been entered for the season finale at Macau for the SUNRED Engineering team, with Couto driving the team’s self-built engined car, and Barth the new SEAT Sport engine. Several local drivers have also been entered for the race in older spec cars.
Swiss-driver Fredy Barth last drove in the WTCC at Macau last year, crashing out heavily in the second free practice session and was ruled out of the race due to concussion. Barth has sat out the 2012 season and his been focussing his efforts on a return to the Championship in 2013, but will make that return two rounds early by taking part at Shanghai and at the Macau race this season.
Macanese-driver André Couto has regularly competed in the Macau finale, taking part in last year’s event with the team’s SR León 1.6T, and famously clashing with Alain Menu’s Chevrolet in qualifying.
Also taking part in the race this year will be the Hong Kong-based China Dragon Racing team, with three normally aspirated Chevrolet Lacettis. China Dragon Racing compete in the Hong Kong Touring Car championship and also raced in the CTM Macau Cup last year at the Macau GP, finishing first and second with Samson Fung leading team-mate Paul Poon to a 1-2 finish.
This year the team will enter Felipe de Souza, who raced with Corsa Motorsports in a Lacetti last year, Ng Kin Veng and Celio Alves Dias, all three from Macau.
There will also be three normally aspirated BMW 320sis entered at the race with Mak Ka Lok returning in his privately entered car, Henry Ho Wai Kun also in a private BMW and Jo Merszei in a BMW run by Liqui Moly Team Engstler, in addition to their two turbocharged entries for Charles Ng and Franz Engstler.
Eurico De Jesus will also be running in an ex-JAS Motorsport Honda Accord Euro R, which will bring the total number of Hondas in the race to two after counting Tiago Monteiro’s new Honda Racing Team JAS Civic.
