Tragedies mar the Japanese WTCC event
There have been two fatalities over the course of the World Touring Car Championship weekend at Suzuka which have cast a shadow over the event.
On Saturday evening, Dutch newspaper The Telegraaf reports a 48-year-old guest of SUNRED driver Hiroki Yoshimoto fell from the second floor of the stands above the teams’ pit boxes, directly behind the Arena and Special Tuning Racing teams, and didn’t survive the fall
On Sunday in the Super Taikyu race which was supporting the WTCC at Suzuka, 54-year-old Osamu Nakajima was involved in a multi-car incident in his Nissan Fairlady Z, suffering severe injuries and was extracted to hospital, but succumbed to his injuries at 12:05 local time.
