James Nash hoping for points on race day
Arena Motorsport driver James Nash starts 15th on the grid for both of Sunday’s races, after just being bumped out of Q1 in the last minutes of the session, and is targeting to get his first points since Austria on race day.
Nash and Chilton line-up 15th and 22nd on the grid, though the Ford Focus seemed more competitive at Shanghai, with Nash just 1.1 seconds down on Alain Menu’s pole time and ahead of the new Honda Civic driven by Tiago Monteiro.
With the wide circuit and fast straights of Shanghai, the 26-year-old is hoping to break into the top ten on race day and pick up the team’s first points since May.
“We’ve had a run of disappointing events lately and l was really hoping we could change that here and we could get back into the top 12,” said Nash.
“I ought to be encouraged that we have made progress and almost got there but like all racing drivers I’m a very competitive animal so to miss the target by such a small margin is frustrating.”
“That said the Shanghai circuit is a long and very wide track and I think we’ll see some good
touring car action in the races with plenty of overtaking, hopefully. The aim from where I’ll be
starting the races has got to be two top ten finishes and some more Championship points”
