Basseng and Winkelhock set for WTCC 2013

Marc Basseng, Markus Winkelhock and Rene Munnich are set to race three SEAT Leóns in next year’s FIA World Touring Car Championship under team Munnich Motorsport according to Autosport.
“We will switch to the WTCC as long as nothing unexpected happens and we are in final discussion to buy three SEAT Leons,” said Team Manager Basseng to Autosport.

Team owner Munnich, who is a rallycross regular, raced a SEAT for STR in the WTCC races Suzuka, finishing 17th and 20th.
“Rene wants to do some circuit racing. He did the Suzuka WTCC with Special Tuning Racing and found that these cars suit him,” said Basseng.

Munnich Motorsport secured the FIA GT1 World Championship title this year with drivers Basseng and Winkelhock in a Mercedes SLS AMG GT3. But with the FIA GT1 championship ending after this season, instead becoming the new GT Sprint Series combined with Blancpain Endurance Series, Munnich Motorsport decided to leave.
“We don’t think the world series is a true world championship and the marketing and PR behind the WTCC makes it easier to make the investment,” said Basseng.
