Points possible for Honda at Macau says Monteiro

Tiago Monteiro and Honda heads to Macau this weekend for the season finale of the 2012 FIA World Touring Car Championship. The Portuguese says that points are possible for the Japanese manufacturer at the legendary street circuit.
“I want to score points for the season finale. We achieved this regularly so far and I think it’s possible,” said Monteiro.

Monteiro has managed to score points in all but one of the four races he has done for Honda, debuting the new Civic at Suzuka in October. But points is not the main objective this year.
“We respect our program which is centered around data collection and the accumulation of miles. We still have a lot of parameters that need to be analyzed and these races are the last opportunity of the season to do that. We must do our utmost to prepare for the 2013 season,” said Monteiro.

After racing at Suzuka and Shanghai with the Honda, Monteiro is looking forward to take on the streets of Macau.
“This is probably the craziest race of the year for several reasons: the media attention, a demanding track and the danger. These are the ingredients that make it unique. Ever since I have been in the WTCC, I’ve always been good on the Guia circuit, and I hope that this will be the case again this year because I love this track,” said Monteiro.

While the Portuguese likes Macau, the weather forecast indicates that rain could play a big role for this weekend.
“But there are forecasts that rain could complicate the course of the weekend and we can’t forget that this is a street circuit where the asphalt is slippery and generally in poor condition,” said Monteiro.
