Rob Huff in best position to secure first title

Rob Huff’s fourth pole in four years at the Guia Race of Macau has put the 32-year-old in the best possible position to secure his first World Championship on Sunday.

The Chevrolet driver set two laps of 2:29, the only driver under 2:30 in the history of the WTCC Macau event, to claim just his second pole position of the season, but his fourth consecutive pole at the Chinese Special Admininstrative Region.

Huff goes into race day with a 37 point lead over team-mate Alain Menu, and just a podium finish result regardless of where his team-mates finish will be enough to secure him the title in the first race.

“Here in Macau, my favourite circuit with a fourth pole in four years is something I’m very very happy about,” said Huff.

“I’ve always really like this circuit and I think my results over the last four years have shown that. The car was brilliant, at the end of the day we couldn’t do what we do and the four of us wouldn’t be here if Chevrolet & RML hadn’t given us the most amazing car, and the best opportunities.

“To be able to set a 2:29, I was surprised to see, but the car’s just been getting quicker and quicker all weekend.”

“As everyone says here at Macau, anything can happen and it generally does. You’ve only got to look back two weeks to see Yvan and I were level in the Championship, and it doesn’t take a lot for it to change around really quickly.”
