Rob Huff on top again in final practice at Macau

Rob Huff led both of his Chevrolet team-mates in the final practice session at Macau, with qualifying to follow for the final round of the 2012 World Touring Car Championship.

Huff and Muller exchanged first place at the beginning of the session, with Huff setting the first benchmark of 2:33.028, which was immediately bettered by Muller.

Huff’s 2:31.973 put him back on point, before Muller followed up with a 2:31.335, but Huff found another two-tenths to end the session fastest on a 2:31.061, just eight-tenths of a second outside of the circuit’s qualifying lap record.

Alain Menu was third fastest, and the only other car within a second of Huff. Gabriele Tarquini was best of the rest, setting the fourth fastest time in his final weekend with SEAT for the Lukoil Racing Team.

Tiago Monteiro was fifth fastest for Honda, just under two-seconds down on Huff’s time, whilst the top independent driver was Norbert Michelisz in sixth, who was also the top BMW.

The two Fords of James Nash and Tom Chilton were 19th and 20th respectively, whilst the fastest of the normally aspirated cars was Henry Ho, who was finally able to set some laps after missing all of the Thursday test and FP1, and was 22nd fastest in the Five Auto Racing Team BMW 320si.

Mehdi Bennani tapped the wall at Lisboa but didn’t damage his Proteam BMW, and was able to return to the pit and later rejoined the session.

The only real drama was just over five minutes before the end of the session, when Stefano D’Aste spun his Wiechers-Sport BMW 320 TC at Police. The two following cars of Jo Merszei and Celio Alves Dias were able to avoid him, and D’Aste returned to the pits with minor damage to the right-rear.

28 cars took part in the session, with Kei Cozzalino’s ROAL BMW 320 TC absent after his crash in FP1, with the car still under repair.

Qualifying gets underway at 15:25 MST (local time).
