Zengo Motorsport confirmed as Honda B-team

Zengo Motorsport will switch from BMW to Honda for the 2013 FIA World Touring Car Championship season, running a single car for Norbert Michelisz in a two-year programme.

After two years with BMW, and prior to that just one year with the SEAT Leon TDI, Zengo Motorsport move to their third different manufacturer with the switch to the all new Honda Civic WTCC, with support from JAS Motorsport.

“It’s still hard to believe that I’ll have a car that will be continuously developed by Honda in the background and we happen to be part of that,” said Michelisz. “At the same time I have to thank BMW Motorsport and BMW Hungary for the last two seasons. We had a great time together, and I’m proud of the progress we made, but it’s time to face a new challenge.”

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to join a brand with such a history in motorsport like Honda. In terms of driving, of course, switching from RWD to FWD won’t be easy in the beginning, but with the dedication and help from Honda and my team, now I can focus on my long term goals; becoming a more complete driver, winning more races and hopefully having the chance to fight for the overall championship in the near future.”

Zengo will receive support from Honda Hungary for the programme, with János Reisz, MD of Honda Hungary adding:
“To our great pleasure Honda has returned to the incredibly popular – especially locally -FIA World Touring Car Championship at the end of last year, and in addition one of the Civics will be driven by a small country’s great driver. From the first moment of negotiations between Zengő Motorsport and Honda we and our dealers have done all in our power to help this partnership become a reality.”

“The Civic has already proved its worth in Tiago Monteiro’s hands, but we know there is hard work ahead for the factory team and Zengő Motorsport as well. Although knowing both parts, the circumstances are perfect for a successful campaign.”

“We keep our fingers crossed for Norbert and the team and wish their brave hearted World Championship dreams are going to eventuate with Honda.”
