Bamboo appoint ex-Subaru WRT Engineering Director

British team Bamboo Engineering have announced that Steve Farrell will be joining the team’s technical staff for the 2013 season. Farrell most recently has been working as a race engineer in GP2, but for five years was the Director of Engineering for the Subaru World Rally Team.

One of Farrell’s responsibilities at Bamboo will be as race engineer as the team heads into its third season with the RML-built Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T.

“The appointment of Steve is a major coup, attracting such an experienced F1 and WRC stalwart is
testament to the strength and breadth of the new look Bamboo Engineering,” said Team Principal Richard Colean.

“I have said this year is going to be big for us and working with Steve and colleagues of his calibre means this season is going to be one to remember!”

The team has already confirmed that Alex MacDowall will remain with the team for 2013, and will be joined by 2011 British Touring Car Championship independents’ trophy winner James Nash, who moves across from the Arena Ford team.

Farrell, who also worked at RML in the 90s during the Super Touring era, and has also worked for the BAR Formula 1 team, the TWR Racing Nissan Le Mans project and on McLaren’s GT racing car programme, has said he is delighted to be joining the front-running independent touring car team.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Bamboo. I have been talking to Richard for a while and the time is now right to make the move to Bamboo. Richard runs a tight ship and from what I have seen so far the strength and breadth of his team is excellent. Plus with great hardware and top drivers, we’ll be sure to make our mark this year.”

Bamboo Engineering has also confirmed a sponsorship tool with Laser Tools for the 2013 year. The Southam-based automotive tool company’s branding will appear on both of the team’s cars this season, moving across from the Arena Ford squad where they supported James Nash in 2012.
