Rob Huff happy as best of the SEATs in Morocco
Reigning World Champion Rob Huff was happy to finish qualifying as the best placed SEAT driver at Marrakech, after continuing to suffer with an engine issue in the Münnich Motorsport SEAT León.
Huff qualified in seventh place, just under nine-tenths of a second down on Gabriele Tarquini’s pole position lap time and lines up ahead of team-mate Marc Basseng on the grid for race one tomorrow.
“We still have a problem with my car, but that has been an on-going problem which is a lack of low-end power which we had at Monza,” said Huff to TouringCarTimes. “It was that noticeable following Pepe (Oriola), you can see the first 50 metres of any slow corner, anything under 5,000rpm, it’s just very flat. SEAT are working really hard on it, but for sure we’re losing a few tenths for it.”
Reflecting on the session itself, Huff added:
“That was a really tough qualifying session, it was all about getting a slipstream, and the ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport team did an amazing job.
“To be in only their second round to perform the way they’re performing you’d think these guys have been doing it for years. Any problems they’re on the case really quickly, and because of this engine problem just before qualifying they were changing a load of sensors on the car and my car hit the floor with ten seconds to go, and ten minutes before qualifying I thought my car was in a state in that I wouldn’t make the start of the session, so they’re doing an amazing job, so I think the SEAT is genuinely eight-tenths off the pace at the minute.
