Tom Chilton leads twice aborted warm-up in Marrakech

RML Chevrolet Tom Chilton led a 1-2 in the morning warm-up session at Morocco, which was twice red flagged. The session was ended prematurely after a heavy crash for Special Tuning Racing’s Tom Boardman at Turn 5.

The short 15 minute session was held in cool conditions with a lifting fog. The red flag was out in less than a few minutes after Nika Racing’s Michel Nykjaer spun around at the chicane at Turn 14 after setting the fastest first sector in the Chevrolet Cruze.

When the session resumed, Tom Chilton soon jumped to the top of the time sheets in the RML Chevrolet ahead of the two Chevrolets of team-mate Yvan Muller and bamboo-engineering’s James Nash.

Tom Boardman set the fourth fastest time overall in the STR SEAT León WTCC, but then on the following lap appeared to suffer with a technical problem heading into Turn 7 whilst behind Alex MacDowall’s Chevrolet, and crashed into the wall at full speed. The session was red flagged with just over three minutes to go and not resumed.

The first race of the day is at 15:20 WET (local time).
