Yvan Muller leads Rob Huff in second Austrian practice

Championship leader Yvan Muller was fastest again in the second free practice session at the Salzburgring ahead of former team-mate Rob Huff’s SEAT.

The Frenchman’s best time was slightly slower than this morning’s session as the track temperature rose. Muller’s best lap of 1:26.344 was over half a second faster than Rob Huff’s time, set in the Münnich Motorsport SEAT, but on new tyres.

James Nasg was the fastest independent driver in third overall for bamboo-engineering, just ahead of Muller’s RML team-mate Tom Chilton.

Gabriele Tarquini was the fastest of the Honda contingent in fifth, just ahead of Alex MacDowall’s Chevrolet, with Pepe Oriola the second quickest of the SEATs in seventh.

Darryl O’Young took part in the session after struggling with a turbo problem in FP1, but was 2.3 seconds off the pace down in 21st position.

After a promising tenth fastest time in FP1, James Thompson’s Lada sat out the whole of the session it the pit lane.

Campos Racing’s Hugo Valente’s session also ended early, with the SEAT driver stopping at Turn 2 with five minutes to go.

Qualifying takes place at 15:00 CET.
