Agustín Canapino leads Chevrolet 1-2 in Cordoba qualifying
Equipo YPF Chevrolet dominated qualifying ahead of tomorrow’s Super TC 2000 race at Cordoba, with Agustín Canapino claiming pole position ahead of team-mate Franco Vivian.
In an unusually spread out session, Canapino set the fastest time in the third part of qualifying by over a quarter of a second over team-mate Vivian, after both drivers had also topped the times in the second part of qualifying which determines which ten drivers go through to Q3.
Chevrolet’s closest rival was the Peugeot of Néstor Girolami, who set the third fastest time, 0.417 seconds down on Canapino.
Points leader Matías Rossi was fourth, almost half a second down on the fastest time in his Toyota Team Argentina-run Corolla.
Fiat were fifth and sixth quickest, with José María López ahead of team-mate Facundo Ardusso, with the third works Chevrolet Cruze of Franco Girolami setting the seventh fastest time in qualifying.
The best placed of the Renault drivers was Emiliano Spataro, the only one of the Renault Lo Jack Team drivers to get into Q3, with the ninth fastest, just under nine-tenths of a second down on Canapino’s benchmark.
Honda struggled in the session with both of their cars out in Q2, with Ricardo Risatti 13th and Christian Ledesma 15th.
The top eight drivers will compete in the Super 8 head-to-head knockouts on Sunday morning to determine the final starting order for the 25 lap race which begins at 13:00 local time.
