Following today’s announcement that Citroën will join the grid of next year’s FIA World Touring Car Championship, the managing directors of the WTCC have praised the entry of the French manufacturer, who will compete with an all-new set of regulations in 2014.

The French manufacturer, mostly noted for its success in the rallying in recent years, will compete with an as yet unconfirmed model of car when the next stage of development for the Championship’s Super 2000 regulations comes into affect in 2014.

“The addition of the pair formed by Citroën and Sébastien Loeb is a big boost for WTCC on the eve of a technical evolution,” said WTCC General Manager Marcello Lotti.

“We are confident that their arrival joint to the new generations of racing cars will contribute to further enhance the championship’s popularity and visibility worldwide.”

Olivier Fisch, Managing Director of the WTCC’s commercial rights holders Eurosport Events added:
“We are honoured that a major car manufacturer like Citroën and a motor sport superstar like Sébastien Loeb have chosen WTCC to continue their cooperation after winning so many World Rally titles.

“This is a an exceptional reward for all the efforts Eurosport Events is putting in to organise and promote the championship.”
