Porto qualifying result amended after timing glitch
The grid for both of tomorrow’s races has been amended after a transponder error in qualifying which recorded the wrong lap times for Tuenti Racing’s Pepe Oriola and Honda’s Gabriele Tarquini.
Gabriele Tarquini had been listed as having qualified in sixth position and Pepe Oriola 12th after crashing out after his first run, but revised times for Tarquini and Oriola elevate them both to fifth and sixth positions after the error was corrected by the WTCC’s timing provider MST.
The change sees Lada’s James Thompson drop two spots to seventh and Rob Huff, Marc Basseng, James Nash, Tom Coronel and Franz Engstler all drop one position each.
The change also has a significant impact on the reversed grid, with ROAL Motorsport’s Tom Coronel demoted to 11th where he will start both races and James Nash promoted to the race two pole position where Münnich Motorsport’s Marc Basseng will start alongside him.
In a final change, Campos Racing’s Fernando Monje drops from 20th to last position after an engine change in his SEAT León WTCC.
