RML still on top in Argentina, but now with Chilton in FP2

RML again led the way in the second and final practice session at Termas de Río Hondo, with Tom Chilton now setting the best time of the day with a time of 1:49.034, leading team-mate Yvan Muller and the rival bamboo Chevrolet of Alex MacDowall.

Alex MacDowall had been fastest throughout much of the session in his bamboo-engineering Chevrolet Cruze, but three-times champion Yvan Muller had two of his earlier runs aborted due to problems for the Münnich Motorsport SEATs.

First René Münnich had spun out at Turn 11, which saw the red flag brought out when Muller had begun his fastest lap, and on Muller’s next fast run he came across reigning champion Rob Huff’s car at Turn 8 which had stopped with a mechanical problem which the team had been working on throughout the session.

Muller had time to put in one fast time at the end of the 30 minute session, but it was just over a tenth down on his team-mate’s, with RML locking out the first two positions in every test and practice session so far this weekend.

Behind the three Chevrolets, the best placed Honda was that of Tiago Monteiro in fourth, though the Portuguese driver carries an engine penalty for race one, with the Zengõ Motorsport Honda of Norbert Michelisz fifth fastest.

José María López was again the best placed BMW driver in sixth, and the last driver under the 1:50 mark, with Tuenti Racing’s Pepe Oriola, Honda’s Gabriele Tarquini, LAda’s James Thompson and bamboo’s James Nash rounding out the top ten.

Qualifying gets underway at 15:45 ART (20:45 CET).
