Rob Huff on the back foot after technical troubles on Saturday

Münnich Motorsport’s Rob Huff will start from the back of the grid for race one and from 14th position in race two at Termas de Río Hondo after engine problems hit on Saturday, which seem to be resolved after the warm up with the reigning champion setting the third fastest time.

Late in Free Practice 1 the team started to suffer an engine issue which only became worse in FP2, with the team forced to change the engine before qualifying, which earned a grid penalty for the first race for Huff.

As the car went out in Q1, a new problem was discovered which reduced Huff’s involvement to a single flying lap at the end of the session, which was good enough to secure 14th place for the second race of the day, with his engine change penalty meaning he would start from the back of race one regardless.

“I went out on the first lap to check the engine as it’s a brand new engine but when we came in we realised the turbo was doing some very strange things,” said Huff to TouringCarTimes.

“I had no free practice two at all, just out and in laps all the time because of the engine problem. It’s a shame as in FP0 we were P4, we didn’t get a good lap in FP1 but all the sectors were there to be fourth or fifth again.”

After the morning warm up, Huff was third fastest and the best placed SEAT, with Huff confirming that the turbo issue now seems resolved for today’s races.
