No place penalties for Coronel or Valente in Argentina
ROAL Motorsport’s Tom Coronel and Campos Racing’s Hugo Valente kept their results in race two at Termas de Río Hondo after the stewards investigation, with Valente receiving a reprimand and Coronel’s contact with Münnich’s Marc Basseng removed from investigation soon after the race.
Hugo Valente received a reprimand from the stewards after contact with Darryl O’Young on lap nine which saw the Hong Kong driver spun out into the gravel, whilst the investigation between ROAL’s Tom Coronel and Münnich’s Marc Basseng was cancelled soon after the race with it effectively being declared a racing incident.
Valente’s eighth place result in race two therefore means he claims his first points in the WTCC in his fifth race meeting in the Championship.
“We had a good fight for a few laps, (O’Young) was in front of me, then I was in front of him and then he was in front of me again,” said Valente to TouringCarTimes.
“I was in the corner and I was faster than him and I moved to the left and he moved to the left as well, but it was slippery and I touched his BMW really lightly in the back and he spun. It’s my fault but I just came back from the stewards and they didn’t give me any (position) penalty.
“It’s only my fourth race of this year as I’m only doing half of the championship. It was a really good day yesterday to get into Q2 for the first time, I was a bit disappointed to miss the tenth position so I would have had pole for race two, but a good race today. I got pushed a bit at the beginning in race two but was able to come back am delighted with the points.”
