Pepe Oriola hoping to continue points scoring run in Sonoma
Tuenti Racing Team’s Pepe Oriola heads to Sonoma this weekend with the target of maintaining his new found season form found since the switch to the RML-built Chevrolet Cruze, with fourth his poorest result since the switch at Porto.
The 19-year-old Spaniard has been charging up the championship order since the move from the SEAT León WTCC to the Chevrolet Cruze 1.6T at Porto in Portugal, and is now just five points behind the RML Chevrolet of Tom Chilton and 14 points behind reigning champion Rob Huff in the standings heading into this weekend.
“I arrive to Sonoma very well prepared,” said Oriola. “Our plan is to continue the same job we started in Porto, and keep on getting the most from the Chevrolet. We have had two fourth places, a second and a third, so the target is to continue in the top five.
“I was very happy after Argentina. It was a shame having traffic in the initial laps, as we could have finished second in the second race. If the Championship would have started in Porto, we would be second now in the standings, so we are very satisfied with the job done with the Cruze, and we hope to continue along this path.”
