Tiago Monteiro tops Friday Sonoma testing session

Castrol Honda Racing Team JAS driver Tiago Monteiro was fastest of all in the Friday test session at Sonoma Raceway ahead of the SEAT León of Rob Huff.

The Portuguese driver was fastest of all with a time of 1:46.300, just pipping Huff by one-tenth of a second in the 30 minute session.

Pepe ORiola was the fastest of the Chevrolet drivers in third, ahead of RML’s Tom Chilton and then the Honda of Gabriele Tarquini was fifth.

Tom Coronel was the best placed of the BMW drivers in sixth for ROAL Motorsport, whilst Mehdi Bennani was the fastest of the Yokohama Trophy drivers in ninth for Proteam.

There were minor incidents, with Liqui Moly Team Engstler’s Charles Ng spinning at Turn 2 less than 10 minutes into the session, whilst James Thompson missed much of the session after his front-left suspension failed just as he began a lap in his Lada Granta.

The next session is Free Practice 1 which takes place at 9am PST on Saturday.
