Thed Björk fastest of all in Shanghai warm up

Thed Björk topped the time sheets for the second time this weekend in the Volvo C30 of Polestar Racing, finishing ahead of Zengõ Motorsport’s Norbert Michelisz and the BMW 320 TC of Fredy Barth in China.

The Chevrolets were the quickest at the start of the session, with the RML Chevrolets of Tom Chilton, then soon after Yvan Muller the first to grab P1, shortly followed by the Tuenti Racing Chevrolet of Pepe Oriola; but they soon dropped down the order with Oriola ending up as the fastest Chevrolet in sixth as other drivers improved.

Fredy Barth spend about half the session as the fastest driver in his Wiechers-Sport BMW, before Thed Björk set his best lap of 1:55.788 to go fastest of all.

Norbert Michelisz soon jumped up to second in the privateer Honda Civic, and was looking even faster on his second run, setting the best first and second sectors, before a major lock-up for the Hungarian at Turn 14 at the end of the back straight, which saw him abort the lap and head into the pits.

Only 26 cars took part in the session with five drivers choosing to skip the session. Those included the Macanese drivers Mak Ka Lok in his RPM Racing BMW and Ng Kin Veng in the China Dragon Racing Chevrolet.

Also missing the session were all three of the Münnich Motorsport SEATs of Rob Huff, Marc Basseng and René Münnich.

The first race is scheduled to get underway at 15:35 CST (7:35 GMT) later today.
