2014 WTCC calendar draft sees Morocco start the season

The current draft of the calendar for the FIA World Touring Car Championship will see the Championship kick-off on the African continent for the first time, starting on April 6th in Marrakech.

As reported previously, the 12 rounds for the 2014 WTCC season will take place in Morocco, France, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Russia, Belgium, Argentina, the USA, China, Japan and Macau, with the provisional dates unveiled by Motorsport-Total.

Belgium and France are the new additions to the calendar, with the Paul Ricard circuit now hosting the second round of the Championship, with Spa-Francorchamps making a welcome return to the WTCC, hosting a race back in 2005 during the first season of the Championship.

Removed from next year’s calendar are Portugal, as scheduled, with the Porto circuit hosting races only every other year, and Monza in Italy, which has hosted the opening race of the WTCC for the past two years, and has been a mainstay on the calendar since 2005.

The only event now which has been on the calendar for every year since the WTCC began is Macau, which will host the season finale on November 16th.
