Agustín Canapino takes pole for Chevrolet at San Martín
Equipo YPF Chevrolet’s Agustín Canapino has claimed pole position for the penultimate round of this year’s Argentinian Super TC 2000 Championship at the Autódromo Jorge Ángel Pena de San Martín.
Canapino lapped the 4.2km circuit with a time of 1:28.283 to take pole position ahead of Championship leader Matías Rossi’s Toyota, with his only rival for the title, Renault Lo Jack Team’s Leonel Pernía, setting the fourth fastest time in the session.
The two were split by the sister Renault Fluence of Emilano Spataro, with Facundo Ardusso the fastest of the Equipo Petronas Fiat drivers in fifth.
Bernardo Llaver, who had been fastest in the second free practice session, set the sixth fastest time in his Toyota Corolla, just over a second down on Canapino’s time, with Renault’s Guillermo Ortelli seventh quickest.
Franco Vivian was the second best placed Chevrolet driver with the eighth fastest time, set in the dying moments of the session which knocked the other Fiat of José María López down to 11th. Vivian was ahead of Mariano Werner’s Toyota and Fabian Yannantuoni, who ensured all four Renaults qualified in the top ten.
The session was also a disaster for the Peugeot and Honda teams, with none of their cars making the top ten in qualifying.
The top eight drivers will go into tomorrow morning’s Super 8 shootout format to fight for their spots on the front four rows on the grid before the race at 13:00 ART.
