Matías Rossi celebrates fourth drivers’ title at San Martín

Toyota Team Argentina driver Matías Rossi is celebrating his fourth drivers’ title in the Super TC 2000 Championship, his second with Toyota after winning the title in 2011. It is also the third for the Japanese manufacturer, after first winning back in 2002 with ex-Formula One driver Norberto Fontana.

The 29-year-old just needed to finish in the top 11 at San Martín in order to secure the crown one race early, while his only remaining rival, Renault Lo Jack Team’s Leonel Pernía, needed to win to keep the title open to the final round at Potrero de los Funes.

Though Rossi was unable to finish the race, stopping on lap 15 with a mechanical issue, Pernía could only manage fourth, with Rossi now claiming the title with an unassailable 38 point lead.

“I am extremely happy to have achieved my second championship with Toyota Team Argentina and I congratulate all at TTA for the great work we did together this year to get to this title,” said Rossi.

“We won a very difficult championship with strong rivals and that gives more prestige to this achievement. Now we have one more race and go, and we’ll go all out to achieve the same result in the teams’ and manufacturers’ championships.”
