Tuenti Racing ready for Macau, after short Philippines ‘holiday’

Tuenti Racing Team and Pepe Oriola head to the Macau finale hoping for a strong end to the season after a troubled few races. The team’s mechanics have also just arrived in Macau after a short holiday on the Philippines, which wasn’t the relaxing break as planned due to the Super Typhoon which hit the country.

The team switched to the Chevrolet Cruze at Porto, initially with strong results, but two poor runs in the USA and Japan and a wrong tyre call in Shanghai has seen Pepe Oriola slip down to ninth position in the standings, though just one point behind ROAL Motorsport’s Tom Coronel, but simultaneously under threat from Honda’s Tiago Monteiro, who is just four behind.

“We want to finish in Macau the work we’ve been doing since June with the Chevrolet Cruze, and get a result on the podium that got away in Shanghai because of the changing conditions,” said Oriola.” Also, this is the home of Cali Macau, one of my main sponsors, who have supported us tremendously, so I want to get a good result for them.”

“Macau is a track I like and where I have always felt comfortable because it is fast and presents a challenge for the drivers. But it is also one of the most dangerous, and track barriers are very unforgiving, so you also need to be careful around here.”

After the Shanghai race, Oriola went to Sanya on the Chinese island of Hainen, but a number of his team’s mechanics, as well as LADA Sport Lukoil driver Mikhail Kozlovskiy, all went to the island of Boracay on the Philippines, just prior to Super Typhoon Haiyan hitting the country.

All have made it safely through the storm and are now at Macau, where rain and wind is expected to continue up until the start of the weekend.
