WTCC season opener postponed by one week
The first round of the 2014 FIA World Touring Car Championship at Morocco has been put back to the weekend of the 12th-13th April, which means it will now be back-to-back with the Championship’s first event in France in five years just a week later.
The first round of the Championship at the Circuit Moulay El Hassan was to be held on April 6th, but will now be held on April 13th after a request from the organisers, which also gives the manufacturers and teams preparing their new cars for the 2014 season an extra week.
The incident-prone street circuit will however be just one week before the WTCC’s first appearance at the Paul Ricard circuit in France on April 20th, which means drivers will need to be additionally cautious to ensure no extensive damage is incurred to the cars, with limited spares likely and very limited time to rebuild before the next round.
