Campos and Engstler confirm TC2 programmes
Campos Racing and Engstler Motorsport have confirmed they will run cars in the FIA World Touring Car Championship’s TC2 class this season for existing Super 2000-specification cars.
The German Liqui Moly Team Engstler squad will field a pair of BMW 320 TCs for team principal Franz Engstler, and a driver still to be confirmed.
“We have currently a few negotiations ongoing for the second car and hope to unveil the name of Franz’s team-mate in the next days,” said Engstler team manager Kurt Treml.
Meanwhile Campos Racing have confirmed that 19-year-old Corsican John Filippi will drive one of the team’s SEAT León WTCCs in 2014.
Filippi won the Single-seater V de V Challenge series last year in a Formula Master car, and has now decided to make the move to touring car racing for 2014.
“I am extremely motivated joining this new challenge with Campos Racing and SEAT,” said Filippi. “My target, considering it is my rookie year in touring car racing, is to learn as much as possible, but hopefully with a few podiums in the TC2 class.”
Campos Racing have previously announced plans to run Jordi Oriola, the younger brother of Pepe, later in the season after the conclusion of the 17-year-old’s SEAT León Eurocup campaign.
Of Campos’ 2013 line-up, Hugo Valente will step up to the new TC1 class in an RML-built Chevrolet Cruze, and is due to test at Valencia this week, while Fernando Monje, the 2012 ETCC S2000 champion, has joined the International GT Open series, driving one of Drivex’s Porsche 997 GT3 RSRs.
