Pepe Oriola to instruct John Filippi at Campos

19-year-old Pepe Oriola will be present at the World Touring Car Championship test at Valencia tomorrow as an instructor for new Campos Racing signing John Filippi. Filippi will contest the 2014 season also at the age of 19. Oriola himself hopes to announce his plans for the year shortly.

Oriola has driven in the WTCC for the past three seasons, finishing as runner-up in the Yokohama Trophy in 2012 to Norbert Michelisz, and then took his first win last year at Morocco in the SEAT León, before switching to a Chevrolet Cruze for the last half of the season.

“There is still time before the championship and I want to make sure I make the right decision, because my goal is to become a professional driver,” said Oriola.

“That Campos Racing can count on my services and trust my talent to train some of its drivers fills me with pride,” said Oriola. “I know the series and despite my youth, I can bring my experience in the WTCC and guide him to score well in this demanding championship.”

There are no cars in the top tier TC1 class available for the start of the season, with the Onyx programme, with which Oriola has been attached, set to be delayed. There are however an abundance of existing Super 2000 specification cars eligible for the TC2 class, which has so far not attracted many entries.
