Yvan Muller leads Citroën 1-2-3 in Hungary FP2

Citroën Total WTCC locked out the top three positions in the final free practice session ahead of qualifying, with Yvan Muller going fastest on his final run with a time of 1:49.301, just ahead of team-mates Sébastien Loeb and José María López, with Proteam’s Mehdi Bennani the closest to them in his Honda Civic.

All drivers focussed on race runs in the early part of the session, with a quick time from José María López of 1:50.861 good enough to hold on to the top spot for the first half of the session.

Mehdi Bennani went fastest of all after 15 minutes, with a time of 1:50.281, which was eventually good enough for fourth, as the three works Citroëns went out for one quick run on new tyres at the end of the session, with both Muller and Loeb breaking into the 1:49s, and López just behind on 1:50.053.

Home hero Norbert Michelisz was fifth, with both the independent Hondas ahead of the two works cars, with Tiago Monteiro seventh and Gabriele Tarquini ninth.

The fastest of the Chevrolet RML equipped drivers was Tom Chilton in sixth in the ROAL Motorsport-run Cruze, with Dusan Borkovic tenth in his Campos Chevrolet.

The fastest Lada was again that of Rob Huff, now 13th, with René Münnich’s Chevrolet splitting him from his two Lada team-mates.

In TC2T, Franz Engstler was again fastest in his BMW ahead of team-mate Pasquale Di Sabatino by just a tenth of a second. John Filippi’s Campos SEAT was third in class, 1.5 seconds down on Engstler, with Yukinori Taniguchi’s NIKA Honda fourth in class and last overall, two seconds behind Engstler and ten seconds off the overall pace.

Rain is forecast to fall for the remainder of the afternoon ahead of the qualifying session which is due to take place at 14:30 CET.
