Emiliano Spataro wins ahead of Damian Fineschi at Córdoba
Renault LoJack Team driver Emiliano Spataro won the Super TC 2000 race at Córdoba a mere eight tenths of a second ahead of Peugeot Lequipe Junior driver Damian Fineschi. Fabian Yannatuoni made it two Renault drivers in the top three by claiming the third and final podium position.
Agustin Canapino looked set to challenge Spataro for the lead from the front of the grid, but suffered from technical problems early on and handed second place to Fineschi.
Fineschi closed in on Spataro towards the end of the race and got right onto the rear bumper of the Renault Fluence. But there was not enough laps for Fineschi to put in a real attack on Spataro and the Peugeot 408 driver had to settle for second.
The Fiat duo of Facundo Ardusso and Mariano Werner claimed positions four and five, with Matias Munoz Marchesi finishing sixth for Equipo YPF Chevrolet.
Another manufacturer duo claimed positions seven and eighth in the form of Toyota Team Argentina drivers Bernardo Llaver and Agustin Calamari.
Norberto Fontana was on a strong charge in the race, climbing the order. But the Equipo YPF Chevrolet driver touched Néstor Girolami on lap 13 and the stewards gave Fontana a drive through penalty, dropping him to 16th position which he eventually improved to eleventh position in the end.
Nonetheless, Fontana heads the drivers’ championship on 61 points ahead of Ardusso on 57 points and Werner on 52 points. The championship continues on May 24 at Rosary.
