Tom Coronel looking forward to his first wet race in Slovakia
With the rain hitting the Slovakiaring circuit just ahead of the first race of the day, Dutchman Tom Coronel is looking forward to his first wet start in the Chevrolet RML Cruze, after missing the wet races at Paul Ricard three weeks ago.
“I’m very excited. I’ve never driven in the wet,” said Coronel. “(The car’s) not the best starter in the dry, so what can I expect in the wet? I didn’t drive in Paul Ricard so I don’t know, so it’ll be a nice first few laps to see what the car wants to do.”
In race two, Coronel will again start ahead of the three factory Citroëns, and after his giant-killing performance last week at the Hungaroring, where he held off Yvan Muller for the full race distance, Coronel says he’ll do his best to do the same again, although there are more overtaking opportunities at the Slovakiaring.
“I will defend big time. I’m here to race, I’m here to enjoy it, so I’ll do whatever it costs to protect my position, if that’s drive fast or defend, I don’t care. I don’t think it’s so easy to overtake here if you have the same car, or when your tyres go off…that’ll happen for sure in the dry, but in the wet it’s a bit different.”
