Campos set to work all night to repair Hugo Valente’s car
The Campos Racing team are set for an all-nighter in order to repair Hugo Valente’s Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1 for tomorrow’s races after a heavy crash in free practice.
The French driver went off at Turn 9 while following behind Sébastien Loeb, and sustained heavy damage to the front-left corner of the car.
In qualifying, team-mate Dusan Borkovic had an equally scary off at the same corner, but hit the barrier with less force with a car which is more easily repairable, and will start 12th for both races.
At this point it’s unclear whether Valente’s car will be able to race tomorrow, with the first race early at 10:00 CET, but the team are working on the car with the intention to be on the grid.
“We’ll try to our best as we always try to repair the cars, but this is really difficult,” said Campos Racing Team Principal Joan Orus to TouringCarTimes. “We are looking for parts and we will work during the night and we will see if we can fix it during the night.
“We have to repair, and cut and weld other parts which will be really difficult, but not impossible, but I cannot confirm now.”
On Borkovic’s incident, Orus admitted it was a shame, especially with the performance of the Chevrolets this weekend, with Gianni Morbidelli taking a provisional pole position at the circuit.
“Dusan saved the car, but I think he had the chance to be in Q3,” said Orus. “Hiis first and second sectors were pretty incredible, so it’s a shame he couldn’t finish the lap, but our drivers clearly have to improve on that corner, that’s clear,” he remarked jokingly.
