Gianni Morbidelli hoping to finish the season on a high

The FIA World Touring Car Championship is season is coming to an end this weekend in Macau. After an initially tough Asian leg of the series, Münnich Motorsport driver Gianni Morbidelli had a positive outing in Japan and is looking forward to the season finale.

Morbidelli says he would like to have a positive ending to the season, as he is still uncertain about his future.

“The final race in Macau will mostly be a chance to try to finish the season on a high for me,” said the Italian. “It often happens that the last race also acts as a ‘bridge’ for the following season, but at the moment my future is still unknown, although I never tried to hide the fact that I would like to stay at All-Inkl.com, as I have a good relationship with them now.”

Unlike many drivers on the grid, Morbidelli does not like the Macau track as much as he does other street tracks.

“It is a track I know, because I drove there in single seaters in the F3 GP as well as with Alfa Romeo in touring cars. I normally like street tracks and I also had a few good races on this type of circuit during my career, but I have to admit that Macau is one of my least favourites. It is not a typical street track because we hit very high speeds but the difficulties in overtaking are more similar to slower tracks such as Monte Carlo.”

Referring to his #10 black Chevrolet RML Cruze, the Italian closed says he hopes his will be the winning number coming out of the Macau roulette.

“It will definitely be one of those races in which you pay for your mistakes, as usual, it’s a real roulette. After all, Macau is the world capital of gaming, and maybe the black ten will be the winning number.”

Morbidelli currently sits ninth in the championship, 36 points behind fellow Chevrolet driver Tom Chilton.
