Néstor Girolami wins the second round of 2015 in Rosario
Peugeot Total Argentina’s Néstor Girolami won the second round of the 2015 Argentinian Super TC 2000 Championship in Rosario, starting from pole after winning the second of the two qualifying heats in the morning. The reigning champion crossed the line 1.2 seconds ahead of the Fiat Linea of Facundo Ardusso, with team-mate Agustín Canapino five seconds further down the road in third.
The race was interrupted by the safety car early on following an incident between the two privateer entries of Carlos Merlo, in the M&M Group Fiat, and Daniel Belli in the Lanús Motorsport Chevrolet Cruze.
The race was restarted on lap 12 but the safety car was out again straight away after the Litoral Group Chevrolet of Javier Manta stopped at the final corner.
The race again resumed on lap 14, with Girolami in the factory Peugeot 408 fighting off Ardusso’s Fiat Linea, with his Peugeot team-mate Canapino not far behind.
Canapino later was in a battle of his own, having to fend off the Toyota Corolla of Esteben Guerrieri to claim the final spot on the podium.
Girolami’s went on to take the chequered flag and begin his title defence one round late, after leaving the opening round at Junín with no points on the board after retiring from the race. The Peugeot driver now sits joint fourth in the standings on 31 points along with Junín race winner Damian Fineschi, who in contrast failed to finish today’s race in the Peugeot Junior Team entry.
Girolami’s Peugeot team-mate Agustín Canapino now leads the standings on 44 points after two third place finishes from the opening two rounds, with the Fiat of Facundo Ardusso and the Toyota of Esteban Guerrieri tied in second on 32 points.
The next round of the Super TC 2000 Championship takes place at Oberá on May 17th.
