José María López again on top as the rain continues in Hungary

Citroën Racing’s José María López was again fastest in the second and final practice session at the Hungaroring, though by less of a margin than in the first session, now just over half a second quicker than the Hondas of Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro.

The top spot changed hands between three drivers during the 30-minute session, with Citroën’s Yvan Muller setting the first benchmark with a time of 2:14.071, with López cautious on his first run in the tricky wet conditions, which appeared more slippery than the first practice just two hours earlier. López soon took charge on his second flying lap and grabbed the top spot from his team-mate with a time of 2:12.432, only briefly deposed from first place when Honda’s Gabriele Tarquini went fastest during the middle part of the session.

López found more time to go fastest of all with a time of 2:11.506 with just over ten minutes remaining, and the conditions never improved enough to allow more time to be found.

Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro again completed the top three as in FP1, with Yvan Muller also again fourth, with Zengő Motorsport’s Norbert Michelisz the fastest of the independents’ class drivers in fifth, ahead of Rob Huff, who was now sixth fastest in the Lada Vesta WTCC.

Ma Qing Hua finished seventh for Citroën. The team had managed to repair the damaged C-Elysée of Sébastien Loeb he’d crashed out at the start of the first practice at Turn 1, with the Frenchman finishing the session eighth, with the Chevrolets of Tom Coronel and Stefano D’Aste completing the top ten.

Qualifying is scheduled to take place at 14:30 CET.
