Norbert Michelisz takes personal responsibility for “commentator’s lap” blip
Zengő Motorsport driver Norbert Michelisz threw his Honda Civic WTCC off the track in the final sector in the second free practice session on a lap in which he was providing live commentary for the television broadcast, but says it wasn’t the multi-tasking that caused the off.
The Hungarian driver was talking through the lap for the live internet broadcast of the second free practice session during the first few minutes, but went wide and ran through the gravel trap, but was able to recover to the pit lane undamaged and take part in the rest of the session.
“I don’t think it was really because of (the commentating),” said Michelisz to TouringCarTimes. “I most probably would have made that mistake anyway. As soon as I knew I had to do the commentary, I said to myself I wouldn’t really do an attacking lap like I would normally do.
“I think maybe just because of the set-up change, and some slight balance changes which meant the car didn’t behave like I expected it to, that was it. Luckily I could escape the gravel trap and return to the pits.”
