Damian Fineschi grabs pole position in San Luis

FE Peugeot Junior Equipe driver Damian Fineschi qualified in pole position for the sixth round of the 2015 Argentinian Super TC 2000 Championship at San Luis, outpacing Renault’s Leonel Pernía by 67 thousandths of a second at the 4.5km Rosendo Hernández circuit.

Fineschi had set the fifth fastest time in Q1, assuring his progress into Q2, which he topped with a time of 1:28.841. Although the 27-year-old was slightly slower in Q3, his time of 1:29.039 was still good enough to secure him pole.

Pernía was just 0.067 behind in the Renault Fluence, with championship leader Facundo Chapur third fastest in the Equipo Fiat Petronas Linea, also within a tenth of Fineschi’s time.

Agustín Canapino was the next best placed Peugeot driver in fourth, with Fiat’s José Manual Urcera fifth.

Néstor Girolami set the sixth best time in his Peugeot 408, with Toyota’s Esteban Guerrieri just over half a second off the overall pace for Toyota Team Argentina, seventh in the Corolla.

Toyota’s Matías Rossi, M&M Group privateer driver Carlos Javier Merlo and YPF Chevrolet driver Matias Munos Marchesi rounded out the top ten.

The main race takes place at 12:40 ART on Sunday.
