Augusto Farfus gets pole for Race 2 at Oschersleben
BMW Motorsport continues to be the manufacturer on top, as Augusto Farfus took pole position for this afternoon’s Race 2 at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. Team-mate Tom Bomqvist qualified in second place, making it an all front row for the Bavarian manufacturer.
After last night’s rain, weather conditions stayed dry and sunny, so the qualifying session took place under dry conditions and with the competitors mounting slick tyres.
The session saw plenty of changes in the positions, as the conditions were continuously improving. BMW and Mercedes AMG held a thrilling pulse for the pole position.
Team RBM Augusto Farfus set the fastest time with 3 minutes on the clock, with team-mate Tom Blomqvist going second fastest shortly after, 0.019 seconds off the pace.
Standings leader Pascal Wehrlein was third, just 0.027 seconds off Farfus’ time. BMW’s António Félix Da Costa was fourth, followed by Mercedes’ Paul Di Resta.
Reigning champion Marco Wittmann was sixth, followed by yesterday’s winner Timo Glock. Miguel Molina was again the top man for Audi Sport in ninth, with Bruno Spengler, who yesterday got himself back in contention for the title, in tenthm only 0.353 seconds behind the poleman.
Audi Sport’s Mike Rockenfeller qualified in 13th place, and will be getting a 3-place grid drop as a result of yesterday’s penalty. Mattias Ekström struggled again, only being able to qualify in 18th place, despite being only 0.521 behind the poleman.
Robert Wickens, who got a 13-place grid drop as a result of combined penalties, focussed on practicing starts, and was 24th and last.
Race 2 is scheduled for 15:10 CEST (GMT + 2), and will run for 60 minutes plus one lap.
