Largely unchanged 2016 calendar will see the WTCC start in Morocco

The draft for the 2016 World Touring Car Championship will be confirmed by the World Motor Sport Council later this month, but TouringCarTimes understands the list of countries visited will be no different to this season, but with the order more in-line with the 2014 season.

Instead of starting the championship in Argentina again, which was the hottest race of the season, the South American round will be moved back to August, so Morocco will host the opening round of the season, before the European rounds in France, Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, Russia and Portugal.

The final four rounds will again be held in Japan, China, Thailand and Qatar, with the dates for the Chinese and Japanese rounds still to be finalised.

The field will leave by sea freight to Argentina, after the championship’s second visit to Vila Real, which has been brought forward to June 2016, before being air freighted to the Asian rounds of the season.

The full list of dates will be available when released by the FIA WMSC.
